The purpose of NAR’s “AE Leaders of Tomorrow” Young Professionals Award is to recognize association executive young professionals who have fostered greater involvement and increased professionalism among their YPN AE peers and REALTOR® members.

Starting his career in 2001 as a Communications Intern with the Cleveland Area Board of REALTORS®, Valerino soon ascended the organization’s management structure, and by 2013 was Chief Executive Officer, during which time he was instrumental in facilitating the merger with Akron Area Board of REALTORS®. Valerino currently serves as Chief Operating Officer of the Akron Cleveland Association of REALTORS®. The organization’s membership now has over 5,500 members, and Valerino’s efforts have dramatically increased the organization’s impact as the Voice for Real Estate in Northeast Ohio.

ACAR CEO Sandy Naragon said, “Mike is an amazing partner to lead with and I couldn’t be prouder of his earning this award. I think what I’m most proud of is his balance. He’s committed to making ACAR the best it can be and still makes time to be a strong community leader and volunteer. He does all that while also being a role model husband and dad! I’m thrilled our peers around the nation see his contribution and are recognizing him.”

Valerino leads a local advisory council designed to recruit and develop ACAR leaders to prepare them to seek elected and appointed leadership positions at the National and Ohio levels. The success of this leadership development group under his direction has impressed and captured the attention of state and national REALTOR dignitaries.

Valerino chaired the 2017 Communication Committee for Ohio REALTORS® and was tasked with working with Ohio REALTORS® staff to conduct a communications audit that lead to changing the association name to Ohio REALTORS®, and secured approval and funding for new branding and website rebuild. He is an ongoing supporter and mentor to Ohio’s new AE’s. He also serves on the Strategic Planning Committee. Nationally, Mike has served NAR since 2011.

Valerino said, “I’m so honored to receive this national award. Thanks to my wife, Aubrie Valerino, for being so supportive of the work I do. Thanks to ACAR CEO, Sandy Naragon for being such a great mentor. And thanks to my colleagues, REALTOR® Association Executives from all over the country for their leadership.”

Valerino is a graduate of Ohio University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science. He is a native of Cleveland’s west side, and currently resides in Avon Lake with his wife and four children
